Natural Materials Used

Hemp

Hemp

Hemp is one of the oldest know fibers and has been used for centuries in a variety of applications. It is a natural fiber that is easily grown with little maintenance. It is used to produce a variety of products including clothing and other textiles, food and many others.

Also used in cosmetics and toiletries, hemp can be found in products from lip balm to body lotion to shampoo, just to name a few.

Hemp has been a historically beneficial crop because of it's durability. Colonists and traders were able to cross the Atlantic Ocean because hemp was used in sails and rope on the ships. Hemp can also be used to make paper, and in earlier times was used often for this purpose. From the time of colonists to the present, hemp has been a versatile crop that can be used for over 25,000 products.

One of the benefits of hemp is that is requires little to no herbicides or pesticides for successful growth, making it an eco-friendly crop. It can be grown almost anywhere, and with a growth cycle of 120 days, hemp is an efficient and economical crop for farmers to grow. Properly grown hemp has virtually no amounts of tetrahydrocannabinol (THC). It's rapid rate of growth and high resistance to diseases make it a desirable crop for farmers and manufacturers alike.

The most frequent use of hemp is in the textile industry, and it is one of the strongest fibers known. It is lightweight, absorbant, has excellent tensile stregth and is UV resistant and mold resistant, which is why it can be used for clothing. Accessories such as jewelry and plant hangers are some of the ways in which hemp fibers can be transformed into everyday products.

Krescent Kreations offers many hemp-based products, such as jewelry and plant hangers. This biodegradable and renewable resource could be just what you and your friends are looking for. Attractive and eco-friendly, Krescent Kreations products offer you the best of both worlds.

Jute

Jute

Jute is another naturally occurring fiber and is 100% biodegradable which makes it an attractive fiber for many applications and products.

Cultivated primarily in India and Bangladesh among other tropical areas, jute can grow to about 12 feet and has delicate green leaves and small yellow flowers. The flowering stems are cut down, dried in the sun and then soaked to loosen the bark and dissolve the gum that hold the fibers together in a process called "retting." The fiber is then removed by hand.

It is one of the strongest natural fibers and also has some heat and fire resistance. Jute makes for a breathable fabric with a high tensile strength. Jute can be blended with both natural and synthetic fibers, and also accepts several types of dye.

The leaves of jute can also be eaten: the young leaves can be used in salad, while older leaves should be cooked, much like spinach, and the leaves are high in protein. Dried leaves can be used as a thickener in soup and even for tea.

Sinew

Sinew

Sinew is part of animal tendons and ligaments and has been used for centuries as threading for many different applications. It is very strong and could be an excellent material for threadings and binding. One prominent use of sinew has been in the making of the bow and attaching feathers to arrows. Sinew is ideal for use in Dreamcatchers because of its strength and durability and use in threading and sewing applications, and is used to thread the "web" inside of the frame.
